Across 90 nations, approximately 476 million individuals belong to more than 5,000 distinct cultures — comprising roughly 6% of the global human population, yet serving as custodians of nearly 80% of the planet's remaining biodiversity.

Their ancestral territories span more than a quarter of the Earth's land surface, overlapping with 40% of all ecologically intact landscapes and protected areas.
Forests under their guardianship lose carbon at a fraction of the rate of lands managed by all other means.

They carry more than 4,000 living languages — each one a vessel of ecological intelligence shaped over millennia: the seasonal cycles of our plants, the healing properties held in root and leaf, the quiet grammar of soil and water, fire and frost, and the ancient art of coexistence with all other species.

Their wisdom is our hope.
